The pardoned witch

These illustrations are part of a Teaching Innovation Project presented at Educa Falles 2020, in Las Naves, València. This is the design of an activity to apply in highschools to reflect on the burning of witches. Taking advantage of the Fallas festivities, typical of València, where monuments are built and then burned, it is proposed to build a witch in layers. She is then stripped of all stereotypical elements to show the real woman underneath. Finally, all the imaginary is burned and the woman is saved.

The woman represented is Marguerite Porete who was burned for her book and ideas in 1310 in Paris.

This project is part of a doctoral research on illustration and feminism.
